Party!

Just chilling a few minutes before I go put makeup on *gasp* for the holiday at work. It's at the Alice Country Club. As Chris pointed out, it is in the country. The reason we didn't have it before xmas was some sort of scheduling nightmare with various work higherups who wanted to be there. So here we are in January having our xmas party. Oh well. I just tried to find a web page for the Alice Country Club but there's not one. Just a link to a golf site with a review of the 9-hole course. And that the town was originally called "Bandana."

Happy New Year

Wow, I'm such a terrible blogger. But in the spirit of these new year's resolutions I'll try to post at least once a week.

I painted the front room (living/dining) and foyer today. It was a terrible yellow when we bought the house and now it is "latte." Or off-white if you prefer. I have the hallway to do this weekend.

Not much else new. My job is going really well. I sold two pieces of art this year, and have commissions for 3 more. So that's good.

We're planning a trip to Great Britain next summer with some high school friends and I'm really looking forward to that. So any of you with tips for the UK feel free to post them.

Trippings

I've changed the photo to reflect my recent trip to Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. This is me at the National Gallery of Art standing next to my favorite painting, "Rubens Peale with a Geranium" by Rembrandt Peale. Many of you may not know this, but I'm a huge fan of 18th and 19th century American painting. Of course, I love lots of other art as well, but that's definitely my favorite area. More about my trip later :)

Weird Al made my husband sterile

So Thursday night we went to see Weird Al Yankovic in concert, the "Straight outta Linwood" tour. Excellent performance, he's a very good singer live, and there was lots of costume changes and dancing, and when he did "Smells Like Nirvana" he had apathetic cheerleaders and everything. He also rode out on a Segway for "White and Nerdy."

But I guess you're really wondering about the title to this blog. Well. Al came out in a shiny red suit with his hair pulled back in a ponytail and no glasses...his version of suave, I suppose. He started singing "Wanna B Ur Lovr" and after the first verse he came down off the stage and into the aisle. We were sitting ninth row, center stage, aisle seats. He started singing the song to various women in the crowd and continued walking our direction. He sang to the lady sitting right in front of me, and then the lady behind me. I'll mention at this point that the two seats directly in front of us were empty. So instead of heading past us back to the stage, he jumped up into the seats in front of us, facing me. He proceeded to sing me the following verse, complete with groin thrusting and serial killer eye contact:

"Say, has anyone ever told you
You've got Yugoslavian hands?
No, of course not, that would be stupid
Just forget I ever brought it up
The point I'm trying to make is ...

I wanna be your lover, baby
I need somebody to love
You know I just wanna be your lover, baby
Now, I need somebody to love"

Then he proceeded back toward the stage, and it was at this point that my husband told me he thinks watching Weird Al serenade and grind at his wife rendered him sterile.

The whole thing was hilarious. Chris commented that after that I deserved an autograph. My retort was that I deserved an autograph and an apology! It was an experience.

It made up for a sucktacular week at work.

Our beer is ready, as of today, and we're going to try it out tonight. Hope it's drinkable!
